To fish in a private reservoir, permission must be obtained from the owner.

Fishing in Baku Regulations

Fishing in Baku regulations are available. The Caspian Sea, which borders Baku, is rich in fish species such as sturgeon, salmon, and various types of freshwater and saltwater fish. First, the daily limit for non-predatory fish is 5 kilograms. No limit for Perch, Pike, Wels catfish and Sanders.

Secondly, fishing in Baku regulations include, fishing is prohibited during the spawning period. Fishermen, both commercial and recreational, are required to obtain licenses and adhere to the guidelines set by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. The following areas are popular for recreational fishing only in areas authorized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources:

  • There is roach, pike and carp in Sarysu Lake
  • The Kura and Araz rivers are suitable for fishing with a hook for catching chub and kutum. There are pike, sazan and pike-perch in the rivers.
  • When fishing with a hook, you can also catch shemaya, Caspian roach, plump fish, tench and rud.
  • At Alat Bay and the Absheron Peninsula (65 Km from Baku)
  • Another popular area for fishing is Ikinji Shikhli in Qaazakh district
  • There are common carp, roach, bream, shemaya and asp in Mingechavir Reservoir
  • The Shamkir Reservoir is home to pike-perch, roach, shemaya, bream, and carp

Fishing is strictly prohibited in the following places and times:

  • 1 January to 15 June - Davachi Terminal
  • January 1 - August 15 - the channel connecting the Caspian Sea with the Davachi terminal (including the surrounding area)
  • March 1 to July 31 - crayfish hunting is strictly prohibited
  • 1 April to 30 April -10 Km area from Mingechevir city bridge to Varvara Reservoir
  • 1 April to 1 September - in the Mingechavir and Shamkir Reservoirs
  • May 1 - June 30 - Reservoirs connected to the Kura River
  • 1 May to 30 June - rivers going into the Caspian Sea
  • 1 June to 1 July - shrimp fishing is prohibited
  • 1 June to 20 July - The area from Ali Bayramli Farm to the main Shirvan collector
